review of slashdot

When I came across the heading of a post titled "13 year-old CEO steals the show at TiECON", I had to read it. Apparently there is a 13 year old CEO that is planning on revolutionizing they way children learn chemistry. The post reports that he stole the show at TiECON, a big entrepreneur conference in Santa Clara, CA. The boy's 11 year old sister is the companies VP of sales. Their goal is to get $100,000 to boost their production and distribution.

At first, before I read this article I thought there was no way that a 13 year-old was really running a company. But after reading the aritcle it seems this kid is the truth. The essence of their vision is a fantasy role play board game. Says founder Anshul Samar "we inject fun into education". While still trying to round up funding, he has already booked 450 pre-orders as of saturday. The young man is already planning an online version of the game once his funding and production get into place.

This story is a great example of the current change in technological entrepreneurship. Ten years ago it would have been unheard of for a child to make the entrepreneurial efforts that Anshul has made. This is just another step in the continuing trend toward younger and younger children becoming technological experts and making strides to change the face of Silicon Valley CEO's. His Executive team is entirely comprised of his peers.

Sussex county, delaware wiki 3

The third edit I made to Sussex counties page was to add some general information. I added the fact that it is the largest county in the state of delaware. Sussex county is also the largest county in the state spanning 979 square miles.

review- clickz blog

While surfing through clickz I saw a post about the future of classified ads. The title is"Bye-Bye classifieds". It focuses on Jeff Jarvis' opinion that as a result of new deals that have surfaced between Facebook, Friendster, and MySpace with various web classified partners, traditional classified ads in newspapers will be history. The author of the post creates several valid reasons why Jarvis' opinion may be wrong. First he argues that there are already systems that aggregate classifieds, and also with the use of widgets people can create custom listings for their own site. He also adds that newspapers are working on incorporating social tools on their websites. Adding to that, with their increasing use of social tools they can surely distribute paid and free listings in a contextual manner. This post also mentions that companies like google and yahoo are setting up specific divisions in order to help newspapers to create new listing models and to find more revenue streams.

I think this article is very relevant to almost everybody. Who at one time or another has not searched for something in the classifieds. It does seem like newspaper classifieds are dwindling with the capabilities of creating customizable listings on the internet. I believe that the effect of web classifieds on newspaper will be almost identical to the transformation from traditional news outlets to customizable aggregate news on the internet. While news is far more sophisticated on the web, consumers are still reading traditional newspapers for their coverage. As the use of traditional news outlets become obsolete, that is when the traditional classified ads in the newspaper will stop.

comment on steve hartmans blog

I came across a blog post of Steve's that was pretty interesting to me. The post refers to an article we reviewed in class about the emerging forms of marketing. I think it will be very interesting to see the what effect these new types of marketing will have on the traditional forms. It will create an interesting question for marketers when deciding how to market new products.

review of clickz blog

While looking at news on clickz, I came across another youtube blog that is semi related to another youtube blog of mine. The title is "Chasing the youtube Scammers". This blog focuses on how scammers essentially trick the voting system to inflate the popularity and add such a high rating to their videos. The goal of attaining such a high rating is usually to drive visitors to adware or malware sites. An associate professor at Harvard mentions that this scamming is likely the reason that executives at youtube are hesitant to place ads on their site. This presents a fairly large road block. If youtube was able to place ads on their videos, it would likely be a very profitable venture. I think youtube is taking a step in the right direction by facilitating efforts to remove videos that are falsely represented by their ratings. Maybe the next step should be to redesign the voting system to block links that are created to inflate ratings on social sites.
