comment on Steve Willis' blog

After reading my teammate Steve Willis' blog post regarding disgruntled youtube users that are mad about not receiving compensation from youtube, I felt compelled to comment. I completely agree with Steve that these 'youtube stars' do not deserve compensation. These users are clearly missing the point of open source media. Steve even points out that youtube states in its slogan to broadcast yourself.

comment on Nick Baldini's blog

I just commented on Nick Baldini's blog. This was the first time I viewed his blog and saw his wikipedia articles on Notre Dame players and coach Weiss. These posts caught my attention and I read over his evolution to these pages. I am a huge Notre Dame fan, good to see somebody adding to their pages.

review of scobleizer article

I ran into an interesting article on scobleizer recently. The article was titled "Gonzales proposes new crime: 'Attempted' copyright infringement". The Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is pressing Congress to enact a bill that will expand criminal penalties to people caught violating copyright laws. The most radical change he has proposed is to enact the Intellectual Property Protection Act. Under this act, even those who 'attempt' to committ piracy will be subject to criminal prosecution. Another effect of this act would be to allow more wire taps in piracy investigations, wire taps would be authorized in cases of copyright infringement investigations. The Act would also call for increased penalties for all current copyright infringement laws.

I think the piracy laws should be more focused on people that actually violate these laws, instead of going after people that have not even infringed on any copyright material. I can understand the increased penalties for violaters of the law. This just seems like the government is jumping ahead of itself. We will all just have to wait and see how this plays out in the future.

Sussex county, delaware wiki evolution

The first edit I made to Sussex counties page was to add some information to the Law and Government section. I added the current members of the county council. Members are George Cole, Dale Dukes, Finley Jones, Vance Phillips, and Lynn Rogers.

The next edit I made was also to the Law and Government section. I added the identities of the additional offices of the Clerk of the peace, Register of Deeds, Register of Chancery, and the Sheriff.

For my last edit I added some general information to the original section. I added that sussex county is the state's largest county(by land area), and was also the first county in the state to be founded. The geography section seemed to lack content, so I added some general information regarding the different parts of the county. I said the eastern portion of the county is home to delaware's beaches and many seaside resorts, and also that the western portion of the county is the center of delaware's agriculture industry.

In the evolution of this article there was some additional information that came from the 2000 census report. My last edits to the article were also slightly changed. The history I added about sussex county being the first county established was cleaned up and the exact dates of establishment were listed. There was also a grammatical cleanup done to the history material I added.

National Association of Realtors wiki evolution

The first edit I made to NAR's page was to add a HISTORY section. In particular I added information on the foundation of the organization. I also mentioned the founding city and the evolution of the name of the organization.

The second edit I made to the article was to add some information on the upcoming REALTORS conference and expo. I noted that the event was scheduled for November 13-16th. It will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The third edit I made was to add some more history about the organization. I noted the last transformation from the National Association of Real Estate Boards to the current National Assocation of REALTORS.

My first edit was to add a new history section to the article. It was quickly erased because the other editer thought the information should be placed in the opening paragraph. The information I provided about the upcoming REALTORS conference and expo has been deleted. It's pretty frustrating having the material I contributed deleted, especially because it was accurate information that should be included in the page. For my last edit, I added some more history of the organization and that was deleted also. I feel that both edits I made that were deleted contributed accurate information and should be on the page.

Andy Hall wiki evolution

The first addition I made to Andy's page was to state more clearly his entrance to the NFL. I added that he was drafted in the 6th round with the 185th overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft.

Since Andy played his college football at UD, I figured I would add some information about his college career. I highlighted his senior year in my second edit to his page. I noted that he was named the Atlantic 10 offensive player of the year in 2003. Also added were his passing stats for the year.

The last edit I made to his page was to cap off some information about his college career. In addition to his career passing stats, I also added that he finished 5th on the school's all-time list of total offense. There has been no other edits or contributions to this article.

Cape Henlopen High wiki edit evolution

My first edit to Cape Henlopen High's page was to update the school's new structure. I added that the high school now contains grades 10-12 instead of the traditional 9-12. I also contributed the location of the new 9th grade Academy.

The second edit I made was also an addition. There was no mention of any any school officials, so I added that the new Superintendent of the school district is George Stone. The board of education members were also mentioned.

The school has gone through several changes in administration, in particular principles in the past 5-10 years. So I added that the main campus principle is John Yore and the 9th grade academy principle is Brian Donahue. The only other change to the page was an addition of the word "seperate" into one of my sentences regarding the two campuses.

Sussex county, delaware additional wiki

I also added some information to sussex counties' page concerning its geography. I stated that the eastern portion of the county is home to the Delaware beaches and many seaside resorts. Also, the western portion of the county is the center of delawares agriculture industry.

review of slashdot

When I came across the heading of a post titled "13 year-old CEO steals the show at TiECON", I had to read it. Apparently there is a 13 year old CEO that is planning on revolutionizing they way children learn chemistry. The post reports that he stole the show at TiECON, a big entrepreneur conference in Santa Clara, CA. The boy's 11 year old sister is the companies VP of sales. Their goal is to get $100,000 to boost their production and distribution.

At first, before I read this article I thought there was no way that a 13 year-old was really running a company. But after reading the aritcle it seems this kid is the truth. The essence of their vision is a fantasy role play board game. Says founder Anshul Samar "we inject fun into education". While still trying to round up funding, he has already booked 450 pre-orders as of saturday. The young man is already planning an online version of the game once his funding and production get into place.

This story is a great example of the current change in technological entrepreneurship. Ten years ago it would have been unheard of for a child to make the entrepreneurial efforts that Anshul has made. This is just another step in the continuing trend toward younger and younger children becoming technological experts and making strides to change the face of Silicon Valley CEO's. His Executive team is entirely comprised of his peers.

Sussex county, delaware wiki 3

The third edit I made to Sussex counties page was to add some general information. I added the fact that it is the largest county in the state of delaware. Sussex county is also the largest county in the state spanning 979 square miles.

review- clickz blog

While surfing through clickz I saw a post about the future of classified ads. The title is"Bye-Bye classifieds". It focuses on Jeff Jarvis' opinion that as a result of new deals that have surfaced between Facebook, Friendster, and MySpace with various web classified partners, traditional classified ads in newspapers will be history. The author of the post creates several valid reasons why Jarvis' opinion may be wrong. First he argues that there are already systems that aggregate classifieds, and also with the use of widgets people can create custom listings for their own site. He also adds that newspapers are working on incorporating social tools on their websites. Adding to that, with their increasing use of social tools they can surely distribute paid and free listings in a contextual manner. This post also mentions that companies like google and yahoo are setting up specific divisions in order to help newspapers to create new listing models and to find more revenue streams.

I think this article is very relevant to almost everybody. Who at one time or another has not searched for something in the classifieds. It does seem like newspaper classifieds are dwindling with the capabilities of creating customizable listings on the internet. I believe that the effect of web classifieds on newspaper will be almost identical to the transformation from traditional news outlets to customizable aggregate news on the internet. While news is far more sophisticated on the web, consumers are still reading traditional newspapers for their coverage. As the use of traditional news outlets become obsolete, that is when the traditional classified ads in the newspaper will stop.

comment on steve hartmans blog

I came across a blog post of Steve's that was pretty interesting to me. The post refers to an article we reviewed in class about the emerging forms of marketing. I think it will be very interesting to see the what effect these new types of marketing will have on the traditional forms. It will create an interesting question for marketers when deciding how to market new products.

Andy hall wiki 3

For the third edit of andy hall I chose to add some more information from his college career. This time I added his career passing stats. Also I added his rank of 5th in school history for total yards of offense.

review of clickz blog

While looking at news on clickz, I came across another youtube blog that is semi related to another youtube blog of mine. The title is "Chasing the youtube Scammers". This blog focuses on how scammers essentially trick the voting system to inflate the popularity and add such a high rating to their videos. The goal of attaining such a high rating is usually to drive visitors to adware or malware sites. An associate professor at Harvard mentions that this scamming is likely the reason that executives at youtube are hesitant to place ads on their site. This presents a fairly large road block. If youtube was able to place ads on their videos, it would likely be a very profitable venture. I think youtube is taking a step in the right direction by facilitating efforts to remove videos that are falsely represented by their ratings. Maybe the next step should be to redesign the voting system to block links that are created to inflate ratings on social sites.

Cape Henlopen High wiki edit 3

The third edit I did for Cape Henlopen High school was another addition to the article. I added the name of the new school principal is John Yore, and the principal of the 9th grade academy is Brian Donahue.

For my second edit to sussex counties' wikipedia article I focused on adding to the Law and Government section. I added the identity of several other sussex county officers. The Clerk of the Peace is George Parrish, Register of Deeds is John Brady, the Register of Chancery is David Wilson, and the Sheriff is Eric Swanson.

review of modern marketing article

While reviewing articles on modern marteting, I found one that was particularly interesting. The article was titled "From TV ads to youtube anarchy". As a relatively regular youtube viewer I was interested to see what this was about. This article focuses on Colin Donald of Futurescape and his efforts to understand the role of video-focused social networking sites in the marketing mix. The beginning of the article asks the question of "why is it that a professionally produced video of a semi-clad Kate Moss should only be viewed 75,000 times on youtube, while a home video of a giggling baby attracts more than 8 million people". The reason this is interesting to me is that pretty much the only thing I watch on youtube are UFC fights. Sometimes I find other interesting videos, but often I see the strangest videos that I cant imagine anybody wanting to watch that have millions of viewers. Researching to find what makes these strange videos so popular would go along way in marketing to social media sites.

review- tim berner lee's blog

While scrolling through Tim Berner Lee's blog, I came across an article titled "city of Boston censoring municipal WiFi". The article points out that the city of Boston has mandatory content filtering on its free municipal WiFi service. The subject of content filtering and censorship is a highly debated issue, especially when concerning government funded internet service. It seems ovbious that public internet that is funded by the government should be censored in some sort of way. But at what point is censorship too much? The article states that many sites that are not even close to being illegal or porn related are being blocked. This creates an interesting question in that what guidelines are being used to decide which sites need to be blocked. Another interesting point the article mentions is that if the municipality can arbitarily choose which sites that are to be blocked, what stops them from blocking any content they dont agree with. The article mentions in particular the blocking of opposing political parties and the yankees website(haha).

I think the issue with cencorship is really the defintion of the fine line that seperates appropriate content and illegal or harmful material that should not be seen. I feel that more specific guidelines should be drafted to ensure that the correct material is censored. I know that deciding on the exact guidelines is sure to lead to a larger debate, but it seems that is the only way to ensure material is not censored on a relatively arbitrary basis.

NAR wiki 2

The second edit I made to the National Association of Realtors was to add information about the 2007 realtors conference and expo. I added that the conference is from november the 13th-16th and it will be held in Las Vegas.

Andy hall wiki 1

For the first edit of Andy Hall, I changed one of the opening statements regarding his entrance to the NFL. I added that he was drafted in the 6th round with the 185th overall pick.

Alex Brown on sportscenter

For all of you that didnt catch sportscenter today there was a special segment devoted to horse racing. In particular the segment focused on the horse welfare efforts of barbaro fans. I believe they said that approximately $2million has been raised from fans of barbaro. Among several people interviewed about efforts to save further horses from the same fait as barbaro was Alex. The first clip showed Alex on his computer and talked about timwoolleyracing.com and the fundraising that the site has been able accumulate. This segment also had an interview with Alex that highlighted his particular efforts for barbaro and the great success of his fundraising efforts. I believe the report said that $250,000 was raised as a result of these eff

So congratulations Alex, it was pretty damn cool seeing our professor on sportscenter.

Cape Henlopen High wiki edit 2

For my second wikipedia edit of Cape Henlopen High school I chose to add some information about the members of the district office. The Cape Henlopen School District Superintendent is George Stone. I also added the names of the other seven members of the Board of Education.

National Association of Realtors wiki 1

As a real estate agent myself, I was suprised to see the lack of new information posted on the wikipedia article for the National Association of Realtors (NAR). I have added some information regarding the start of the association. I also described the makeup of the original association which was started in Chicago, Ill in 1908.

Sussex county, delaware wiki 1

As I was searching wikipedia for information on my home town and home state I came across the article for Sussex county. I noticed there were several things missing. The first addition I thought should be posted was to name the 5 members of the Sussex County Council.

Cape Henlopen High wiki edit 1

This is my first edit to Cape Henlopen High School and I chose to insert and addition. I added that the school is now contains only grades 10-12. The former Lewes middle school on savannah road is now home to the 9th grade academy.
